It is a great day for many teachers and children everywhere in Arizona. Some charter schools, represented by the new Goldwater Institute Scharf-Norton Center for Constitutional Litigation, have filed suit against the Arizona Department of Education.

Much of the wording of the lawsuit describes the chaos and confusion of the Arizona standards, the absurdity of the AIMS, and the resulting "dumbing down" of the whole educational process. Not mentioned is the stupendous waste in tax dollars to implement this whopping failure.

Charter schools are suing to be free from the mess above, to compete nationwide on quality national standardized tests derived from the best curriculums based on sound, solid and transparent building blocks of learning.

Let us not condemn charter schools to the politics, waste and incompetence of traditional public education in Arizona.
