Phoenix, AZ-The Goldwater Institute has received notice from the campaigns of Democrat Alfredo Gutierrez, Libertarian Barry Hess, and Republican Matt Salmon that their candidates will appear in Tucson on August 20, 2002, for the gubernatorial candidate forum co-hosted by the Institute and the Tucson Citizen.
"It's great to get such an early, multi-party response from the candidates," said Tom Jenney, Director of Outreach for the Phoenix-based, free-market think tank. Jenney also confirmed the participation of panelist Mary Jo Waits, Associate Director of ASU's Morrison Institute.
The Institute has yet to hear affirmative responses from the following candidates:
- Betsey Bayless (R)
- Gary Fallon (L)
- Richard Mahoney (I)
- Janet Napolitano (D)
- Mike Newcomb (D)
- Mark Osterloh (D)
- Carol Springer (R)
The forum will take place the evening of Tuesday, August 20, 2002, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Marriott University Park, 880 East Second Street, in Tucson.
The forum is free of charge and open to members of the public and the media. Provision will be made for broadcast of the event.
